New Patient (Initial Consultation + Acupuncture Treatment)

Expect your initial visit to last between an hour and an hour and a half. It will include a comprehensive health evaluation, acupuncture, and possibly other healing modalities, such as moxibustion, cupping, gua sha, or tui na (Chinese medical massage). You may also be provided with a prescription for a Chinese herbal formula and/or personalized dietary guidelines to follow.

Follow-Up Acupuncture Treaments

Standard, follow-up acupuncture sessions last between 45 minutes and an hour.  After consulting with the acupuncturist, you will be asked to lie down on a comfortable treatment table while needles are inserted into  appropriate acupuncture points around the body. Once the needles are in place, the acupuncturist will leave the room, allowing you to relax quietly for the remainder of the session. Other healing modalities may be included based on your individual needs.

Herbal Consultations

After a patient intake and consultation, the acupuncturist will provide you with a prescription for a Chinese herbal formula based on your particular needs. Please note that the rate for herbal consultations does not include the added cost of any herbal formulas prescribed.

Auricular Acupuncture (Ear Acupuncture)

An auricular acupuncture treatment typically last between 30 and 40 minutes and involves a brief patient intake followed by the insertion of 3 – 5 needles in each ear. You will be asked to remain seated or lying down for the duration of the treatment. It should be noted that the superfine needles used in this method are inserted into specific points on the outer ear, and never into the auditory canal. Auricular acupuncture is particularly effective for the relief and management of conditions such as stress and tension, depression, irritability, obesity, pain, allergies, anxiety, mood disorders, and many other conditions. It is widely used in addiction treatment as well.

20-Minute Tui Na Chinese Medical Massage

The acupuncturist will utilize a variety of tui na finger, hand, and arm techniques to manipulate the soft tissues (tendons & muscles) in an effort to bring your body back into balance. This is a deep and strong manipulation that may leave you feeling sore after the session. This period of soreness should be followed by a period of deep tension and pain relief that can last for some time.
